All Purpose Cleaner – Disinfect, Clean, and Enhance Your Health!

sick boyMy husband and my youngest son came home from a fun-filled skiing trip with friends. Unfortunately, they shared more than fun in the mountain as one of our friends had the noro-virus, which is highly contagious.  Of the 11 people sharing a house, 8 of them were affected by this virus before leaving.  My husband and son presented with symptoms the night they were home, my husband at 1 am and my son at 3 am.

For those you who follow my blog, you know that my older son has PANS and that we are extremely careful to prevent bacteria and viruses from entering our home as they can potentially result in a “flare”, which is never fun for anyone!  So you can imagine my panic as my husband was erupting in the downstairs bathroom and my youngest was doing the same in the upstairs bathroom.

All Purpose CleanerThe first thing I reached for, after comforting my son and getting him settled down to rest until the next eruption, was the all-purpose cleaner that I use on a daily basis.  What I appreciate about this cleaner is that its is a disinfectant, cleans all surfaces without streaks, AND it’s actually good for me while I’m cleaning!  That’s right, I’m actually boosting my own immune system while I clean!  I’ll give you the recipe below, but first I have to share more of how I kept my oldest son and myself from getting this highly contagious virus.

The next morning I went onto the CDC website to see what I needed to do to ensure that my oldest son and I did not get sick.  I followed those guidelines, altering one important detail that I will discuss below.

  1. I quarantined my sick family members in their bedrooms and assigned them the upstairs bathroom to use solely.
  2. I carefully took all the soiled linens and put them in the washing machine, avoiding shaking any of them out and spreading the virus.  I use a toxin free detergent that contains essential oils and you can learn more about that at my post on laundry detergent.
  3. I disinfected both bathrooms, cleaning the toilets, the counters, the walls, the floors, every surface with my all-purpose cleaner.  I went through the house identifying any surfaces that my husband or son might have touched between coming home and going to bed that night and cleaned those surfaces as well.  The CDC recommends using a bleach solution to disinfect surfaces.  I know from previous research that bleach, though it kills bacteria and viruses on contact, is also potentially hazardous.  Not only does it cause numerous poisonings a year when little children accidentally ingest it, but it has the capacity to form noxious gasses that can cause DNA damage, cancer, asthma, and a host of other illnesses.  So you can understand why I didn’t want to follow the CDC recommendation of disinfecting with bleach.  Instead I chose an equally effective and completely safe alternative that I create myself!  You can learn more about the potential health hazards of bleach at the following sites:

In addition to the precautions taken above, we also took our daily supplements and added in an anti-viral – Oliver 15, high doses of Vitamin C, an immune booster – Super Royal Agaricus, and for 2 days zinc and high doses of Vitamin A.  I applied essential oils of oregano, thyme, melaleuca, frankincense, and lavendar to bottoms of everyone’s feet several times a day.  I diffused a blend, On Guard, in all the bedrooms and kept the diffuser running around the clock in whatever room my oldest son was in.  I was ruthless about maintaining these precautions and the wonderful outcome is that my oldest son and I avoided the noro-virus.  I feel like a super-mom, I really do!

You can have this powerful, but safe, and even healthy all-purpose cleaner as well!
